COSTA RICA
Costa Rica was magical, surprising, and like going on three different vacations. We arrived and checked into a magnificent hotel with a patio view of the magnificent Arenal Volcano. We hiked and swayed over hanging bridges, and later unwound in hot springs. Then we took the longest bumpiest drive in a jeep imaginable (think Indiana Jones) to go deep into the rainforest, where towering trees and looping vines create a wispy strange environment. On terrifying night hikes, we could barely see, but did spot spiders and snakes. In the rainforest, there were such amazing birds, we actually became birdwatchers. Surprise, surprise, it does rain in the rainforest. We longed to dry out, so we drove to Playa Del Coco where the sand and the beach were spectacular.
